Wrap Up: David Jones AW15

Sydneys high heeled and fashionably fierce descended on Level 7 of David Jones Sydney flagship last Wednesday for the launch of the retailer’s Autumn Winter 2015 Collection. The venue was transformed into a gritty Surry Hills meets New York underground space, complete with paved floor, bill posters and hipster marching drummers.

Jessica Gomes opened the 40 minute, 35 designers show with an all white Carla Zampatti that confirmed suspicions as to whether the 70s are coming back. Gomes wore a long white feather coat teamed with wide-legged pants and a white chiffon top that was luxurious. Her entrance was followed by Lover, Camilla, Zimmerman Bec + Bridge, Bassike, Camilla + Marc and others.

The message was clear this show: white is back this winter.

The show then moved into bold accessories by Mimco, and incredible embellished animal prints by Camilla, next was Jodi Meare’s sportswear label, The Upside which presented on trend polka dot bralets and leggings, running shorts and cute cropped sweaters.

Rebecca Vallance was one of my favourites with all black and leather looks with her strong giving it a sexy yet edgy style. A black leather dress over leather leggings, and long-line black sleeveless coat . Accessorised with her signature wide-brimmed hat and leather gloves, gave an all black sophisticated, raw and edgy look.

The masculine trend was further confirmed by Bassike, who showed oversized and slouchy fits in light and neutral tones such as whites, ivory and cream. Showcasing drawstring pants, vests and blazers which gave a relaxed, masculine style to Winter trends.

Riffing on the 70’s, Bianca Spender’s collection took a complete 180 turn away from the neutral/monochromatics trend that dominated both the David Jones show and the past few seasons. Daringly she showed Bowie-esque lurex jackets and cropped pants in tones of electric blue, copper and cherry.

Zimmerman was a knock out, with lots of gold, flounce, lace and lurex- a collection not for the minimalists, being a crowd favourite.

Michael Lo Sordo made a dramatic entrance, with a cherry silk maxi dress worn by Montana Cox stole the show. The outfit looked fresh on the short-haired beauty, and the look was quickly making its way around social media.

In honour of the legendary designers 50 years in the business, the show’s finale was dedicated to Carla Zampatti ending with a bang in uptown 70’s luxe ensembles.

The Countdown to the Victoria Secret Fashion Show 2014

Its Fashion, Its Beautiful Women and its London.

20140415162633_5998

2014 is a year of firsts. First time the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is in London. First time there are TWO Fantasy Bras. And the first time that Brazilian Bombshells Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio will share the honor of wearing the Fantasy Bra on the runway.

fashion-show-dream-angels-fantasy-bra_glamour_4nov14_pr_b_720x1080

Here is a video to take a look behind the scenes of the girls first trying on there fantasy bras. Sporting $2 million worth of jewels, it’s an undergarment too pricey to be wasted under a blouse, so this year’s incarnation is branching out.

“This year, it’s more than a bra,” Mitro says. “It’s on our Dream Angels frame, so it’s a bra frame that our customers are very familiar with, and [Mouawa] jeweled them and they’re custom-made for each of the models. So they started working on these bras back in the summer — it takes several months to do. But what he did very different this year is he did an outfit, so they each have neck pieces and arm pieces and body pieces. So it’s really a jeweled body piece beyond just the bra.”

Look for them on the runway with the countdown on to the 19th annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, and Foxtel has confirmed it will be airing the world’s most celebrated fashion parade Express to Australia on Thursday December 11 at 7.30pm, exclusively on FOX8. Joining them on stage will be performers Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande and Hozier. The theme of this year’s show is “Angel Ball,” which culminates with the models wearing a lingerie version of a tuxedo.

Leandra Medine is an American author and fashion blogger best known for The Man Repeller, a humorous website for serious fashion. Good fashion is about pleasing women, not men, so as it happens, the trends that we love, men hate.

Medine’s first foray into blogging began in 2009, with her first humor blog, Boogers + Bagels, hosted by web-publishing service, blogspot. The blog’s final post was published on April 19, 2010, shortly after the launch of Medine’s second, and most famous, blog, The Man Repeller. Prior to the completion of Boogers + Bagels, Medine had started to incorporate “Man Repelling” terminology into her Boogers + Bagels blog posts, with such articles as “Daily Man Repeller” and “Man Repeller Du Jour” percursing her ultimate transition to The Man Repeller. blog.Medine started The Man Repeller blog in May 2010 as a hobby. The idea for the blog came during a trip to Topshop with friend Rachel Strugatz, now a reporter at Women’s Wear Daily.

To understand what the Man Repeller is about, all you really need to do is get hold of the home video of Leandra Medine playing with her brother at an Upper East Side gym. Their mother is holding the camera. Leandra is wearing, as protection against lice, a shower cap. She is 8 years old, and she says, for posterity, “This is my outfit. Do you like it? If anyone doesn’t … I don’t give a shit!”

Seventeen years later, Medine spends all day telling other women not to give a shit what anyone thinks about their outfits. At ManRepeller.com. Man Repeller is kooky from its words on the pages to the images related to the articles, here is just a snippet from a recent blog post called “I Found the Perfect Jeans”:

“HERE’S HOW TO WEAR THEM FIVE WAYS

Fact: locating perfect denim is akin to achieving ideal companionship, but here’s a question worth canvassing: what happens after you’ve uncovered your happy ending? Do all the fireworks and salsa dancing emojis continue to populate the movie screen that is your life? Do Taylor Swift songs play every time you and your loved one (be s/he human or cotton) are reunited? Are there fights? Ruts that seem insurmountable?”

For more of the blogpost jump on to manrepeller.com to read the fun yet fashion forward post. Man Repeller is a blog that i have been inspired from with the signature humour of the blog being infused with fashion referencing style in a unique way. With fashion being taken serious at times on red carpets with worst and best dressed, this is a refreshing take on fashion in a fun and creative way. This is well grounded with an audience and following of more than 184,000 Twitter followers, 547,200 Instagram followers and 144,000 Facebook followers.

In 2012, Medine was also featured in Forbes’s “Top 30 Under 30” as one of the year’s “most influential trendsetters, while The Man Repeller was recognised in TIME’s “25 Best Blogs of 2012”,and received “Best Overall Blog” at the 2012 Bloglovin’ Awards. Leandra Medine success as a blogger is something I inspire to achieve, gaining the readers and following to be influential in the fashion industry.

Giddy Up Fashion Lovers

The Melbourne Cup stakes were off and racing today, where fashion filled the race track with bright pops of colour and flamboyant designs. My favourite look of the day was the gorgeous Gigi Hadid who was pretty as a picture in a pink lace Alex Perry and Jonathan Howard jewelled star headpiece. http://resources0.news.com.au/images/2014/11/04/1227112/157744-aec6f34e-63c7-11e4-bdd3-73a977145716.jpg Of course Melbourne Cup is all about the fascinator, with the ladies trying to pick the perfect headpiece that will stand out from the rest. However standing out for all the wrong reasons was newly engaged Gabi Grecko, sporting her new engagement ring. http://resources0.news.com.au/images/2014/11/04/1227112/224176-7f20c32e-63c5-11e4-bdd3-73a977145716.jpg Swiss special guest Bec Hewitt was eye catching in a black and white Roberto Cavalli tassel dress and neon green Neil Gregg headpiece and matching accessories. http://resources1.news.com.au/images/2014/11/04/1227112/223869-2e90c948-63cc-11e4-a822-f0e45dcacc2e.jpg Red is a key colour of the spring racing season and looked radiant on Megan Gale and Rachel Finch sporting Yeojin Bae and Ward & Wylie headpiece. http://resources2.news.com.au/images/2014/11/04/1227112/094578-0bbcdd28-63ac-11e4-8f83-4f43733686cd.jpg http://www.mamamia.com.au/wp-content/gallery/2014-melbourne-cup/458354428.jpg Popping colours of red, orange and yellow were contrasted with pretty pastel shades of lilac, mint and pink trackside with most women opting for sleek and chic silhouettes. Rebecca Judd was slimingly opulent in a corseted Dolce and Gabbana dress and Hatmaker headpiece. http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2014/11/04/1415062344680_Image_galleryImage_Rebecca_Judd_in_the_Birdc.JPG Protectionist was the winner of the big Melbourne Cup day which sums up the ladies of the races in regards to their fashion perfectly. The spring races season has produced some amazing diverse looks with Derby Day being contrasted with blacks and whites, and Melbourne Cup brought out the bold and colourful putting a spring in the fashion step. The spring races fashion queen this year of course would have to go to Jennifer Hawkins. With a killer outfit at the Derby Day in a striking all black lace dress by no one other than Alex Perry of course! http://resources0.news.com.au/images/2014/11/01/1227109/249624-45134110-6169-11e4-a822-f0e45dcacc2e.jpg The dress was classy with an edge, with lace that looks like leather. Jen Hawkins definitely marked her 10 years since making her fashion debut at Flemington, the face of Myer can do no wrong! What was your favourite spring racing season look? Fashion Snapper- Mario Testino

In celebration of one of fashion’s most sought-after snappers, Mario Testino’s 60th birthday, I thought I would share some of his amazing work as a fashion photographer.

mario_testino_3067_north_990x

Mario Testino began his career by selling portfolios for 25 pounds in London to wannabe models. Today he is best known for his highly polished, strikingly bright ad campaigns and his exquisitely styled photographs of the couture scene all which possess a deceptive air of insouciance.

Testino has shot the likes of Madonna for Versace as well as the late Princess Diana for her famous Vanity Fair cover in 1997.

o-PRINCESS-DIANA-VANITY-FAIR-570

His unerring ability to take beautiful pictures which sell clothes stems his popularity with designers and fashion editors.

Repost from Instagram “SELFIE WITH ANNA WINTOUR AND BAZ LUHRMANN” at the Chanel show.

Close to home, Mario Testino most recently shot the Vogue Australia November Issue cover featuring Blake Lively:

Mario Testino has a perpetual connection with the best fashion supermodels, working alongside Kate Moss, Cara Delevigne and Miranda Kerr for campaigns.

v4-My-Burberry-Campaign-ON-EM

Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne are two of the most famous faces in the world of modelling but have never been shot together, until this year. Burberry released the campaign of the two for the My Burberry fragrance last month in which is another archive in Mario Testino’s career.

You can visit Mario Testino’s new YOUTUBE Channel for fashion films and behind the scenes at https://youtube.com/mariotestino

Another defining moment in Testino’s career was the release of the book  “Kate Moss by Mario Testino”

sneak-peek-kate-moss-by-mario-testino-trade-edition-1

A photographer’s tribute to his greatest muse

Mario Testino is recognized as the ultimate fashion photographer of his generation but his pictures of Kate Moss transcend fashion. The consequence of two decades of extraordinary friendship, and phenomenal glamor, this iconic collaboration is an intimate insight into the lives and minds of two of the world’s definitive style leaders.

It follow’s the journey of one of fashion’s most creative collaborations, from early days backstage at the shows to behind-the-scenes glimpses of the ground-breaking editorials they continue to produce for the world’s most respected magazines.

blog-_MG_5895 blog-_MG_5896 blog-_MG_5899 blog-_MG_5900

To top of his amazing career Mario Testino prevailed the “In Your Face” exhibition first shown in Boston 2012 and most recently in SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL. The exhibition gives the public an inside look at some of today’s most elusive and exclusive subjects through the lens of renowned celebrity photographer and Vogue and Vanity Fair contributor Mario Testino. Testino’s first US exhibition represents the brilliant range and quality of his thirty-year career and includes striking, larger-than-life images of international superstars such as models Kate Moss, Stephanie Seymour, and Gisele Bündchen, actors Brad Pitt, Nicole Kidman, and Gwyneth Paltrow, musicians Mick Jagger, Madonna, and Lady Gaga, and athletes David Beckham and New England’s own Tom Brady.

Lastly I would like to wish this amazing artist a big Happy Birthday, with many more defining moments still left to come in fashion photography from this man.

Orange is the new black!

10702081_10152367814315373_979297595607472020_n

This weekend I took to this trend with my outfit consisting of the bright orange colour fashion must have this spring wearing the Babydoll Maxi dress from Hello Molly Fashion.

The fiery hue has been spotted all over spring 2014 ready to wear shows, making its way from lips to clothes, bags and shoes. With the addictive television series Orange Is The New Black not even realising they were predicting a major colour moment for this seasons fashion trends.

Dare Hair

Bold hair colours is a new trend that is sticking around this spring with celebrities from Kylie Jenner to Nicole Richie daring to stand out. I completed my weekend look with a pastel blue toned hair colour that complemented the orange dress to my surprise. New brands have taken advantage of this array of colours on the top of our heads with Nak hair for the brave and permanent colour and Dare Hair Colour around for a good time not a long time with wash out hair coloured products.

The Myer SS15 Launch injected fun with coloured hair by Kevin Murphy to set the ice cream pop tone with high-profile names providing a star-studded boost to the show, which had models stomping down the catwalk with candy-coloured hair.

#FreeTheNipple Christopher Kane London Runway

#FreeTheNipple combines with Christopher Kane’s mature and sophisticated fashion pieces baring all on the London 2015 Spring Runway.

Could your beaming headlights be next season’s most stylish accessories? It certainly looks that way. From what we’ve seen at on the runway – bras and pasties are out, nipples are in.

At London Fashion Week’s Spring 2015 shows, models were bearing their breasts left, right and centre. Tom Ford recently presented sequinned nipple pasties on the runway, but Burberry, Erdem and Christopher Kane took the look one step further this week – bra-less is the new trend, it seems.

This season, Christopher Kane’s show was about more than showcasing his ensembles. As a former Saint Martins student of the late Professor Louise Wilson, his collection was influenced by her presence in his life, and her passing. Revisiting ropes a detail he was drawn to in his student collections while studying beneath her the jackets that made their way down the catwalk were formed of nautical zigzag lines, and his silky grey slip dresses brought in at the waist by rope belts.

But don’t be fooled. Grown-up, yes, but not sombre or predictable. As ever, the designer brought newness to the catwalk, from tulle peeping underneath hems to sheer panels to bring the #freethenipple to life and begin a trend that also sparks controversy.
Here is a look at his risky, skin shedding designs from the runway

Style Crush: Christine Centenara.

title

She is the darling of the Australian fashion world, super Stylist and consultant to Kanye West and Ksubi, and recently Senior Fashion Editor at Vogue Australia (moving over from Harpers Bazaar). She is the uber stylish Christine Centenera.

She has incredible style. One of those people who is just always immaculately put together and always wears her fashion, never lets it wear her.”

Christine´s style may be defined as “too brave” or “too much”, often seen in bold outfits Christine’s look mixes fashion and function: strong shoulder blazers, baroque style, peplum, lace, controversial see-through fabrics and is never intimidated by matching oversized clothes with statement shoes. Or even layering patterned pants, draped shirts and jackets with her signature sunglasses for impeccable street style.

She likes to keep it simple with basic colors though: black, white, nude and grey.

Zimmermann Spring Summer 2015 collection titled ‘Tell Me Seer’  was light and airy, full of movement and sophistication. Movement was paramount to Zimmermann’s pieces this season, and delicate shapes reigned. They came in printed silks and wisteria- and peach-colored lace, and wafted out from under pin-striped utilitarian vests. Pitting masculine against feminine is familiar territory for Zimmermann, and here she teamed her cascading gowns with cargo pockets, and sent out suiting in icy blue sharkskin. Timeless and modern, it is this constant level of design that keeps Zimmermann at the forefront of the Australian and international playing field.

Zimmermann Inspiration Board:

For the Spring 2015 Tell Me Seer collection, Zimmermann was inspired by astrological references, from David Palladini artworks to motifs of the tarot.

Float away with Zimmermann’s Spring collection, Zimmermann began in Sydney, with Nicky Zimmermann creating dresses and selling them at Paddington markets. Zimmermann took the step of fusing fashion with swimwear and presented it to the world. What was created was a new reference point for fashion focused swim that has continued to evolve over two decades. Zimmermann is a quintessentially Australian fashion story, who has joined the ever-growing Australian designers showcasing at New York Fashion Week, which grows the Australian support of the internationally recognised fashion label.
